"When it rains, it pours"

You know the saying "When it rains, it pours?" That seems to be the motto on the homestead lately. Everyone here has been sick for weeks. Whatever crud we have is lasting anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks depending on the person. Then I had 4 broody hens sitting but they kept changing nests and breaking the eggs. Of course all the eggs they were sitting on went bad so I decided to buy a few chicks from the local Tractor Supply. Out of the 15 I bought, 11 have survived. One ended up having sprawl leg. (Head over to this post to read about how I fixed that.) Next on the "rain" front, meat birds were delivered and of the 50 ordered( they sent 52) 17 were dead. All on one side of the box. I'm assuming something happened to that side of the box in transit. Thankfully McMurray's Hatchery has amazing customer service and gave me the option of a refund or new birds and we'll be getting the new batch of birds next week. Then came the "pouring" Violet our black baby goat got out of the fence and a neighbor's dog attacked her. Luckily the neighbor was able grab his dog before too much damage was done.

But we did have to take her to the vet and she has a broken front leg. Last night she was pitiful and in so much pain. The vet gave us pain shots to give once a day but it didn't seem to help a lot. I'm hoping it was just because it was the first night with her leg in the splint. I'm praying it will be a quick recovery.

(Update!! She is feeling so much better after writing this! Learning to hobble along in her splint) We're leaving for vacation on the 25th and I'm praying everything on the homestead is going a little smoother so my sister has an easy time looking after everything. It's times like these when I question if I'm really cut out for this homestead life. It would be much easier to find new homes for the goats, sheep, and chickens and just go back to the "convenient" way of life. I'm not gonna lie, I've been very tempted over the last month of hardships. But life isn't easy no matter what path you're on. And while, right now may be a rough season, I know God has it all in His hands. I've prayed and felt led to this life for years. And now that I'm pursuing it, I need to trust Him through the bad times just as much as through the good.
