Beauty in the Snow

Here at the Quirky Homestead, we've had a few inches of snow. We're in southeastern Kentucky so we don't get a lot of big snow and this is our first one this winter. As I went out to let the chickens out in the fresh blanket of snow, I stopped and looked at the beauty God had created. That first snow is always magnificent to look at, untouched by anything. This morning is the third day of our little snow storm so it's not as beautiful and a lot more messy. There are footprints and some areas where the snow has been worn down by sleds and scooped up for snow castles. I realized that while most of us love to look at the freshly fallen snow, it can be just as beautiful to see the worn-down snow. The snow that has been played on my 13 and 9-year-olds.

The snow that has been run through by our puppy, and been walked on by my husband and me as we go to break the water for our animals several times a day. I can't speak for everyone, but for me, I will look at the freshly fallen snow and think about its beauty. However I look at it after a few days and I no longer see beauty, just annoyance that it's wet and muddy. But this morning I stopped and really looked at it. I took a deep breath and realized the snow was just as pretty on the third day as it was on the first. I get to see how our lives are lived in that messy snow. That's really something we can apply in any aspect of life. Just because something looks messy doesn't mean it's not beautiful.
